Cbank sees disinflationary factors strengthening in early May

MOSCOW, May 18 (PRIME) -- The slowdown of price growth points to a rapid weakening of pro-inflationary factors and strengthening of disinflationary factors at the beginning of May, the central bank said late on May 15 in a research note.

The Federal State Statistics Service said that consumer price inflation slowed down to zero from May 7 through May 12 after staying at 0.1% for two weeks.

“The price growth slowdown for a wide range of goods, which was high in March and April demonstrates rapid weakening of pro-inflationary factors and strengthening of disinflationary factors connected to shrinking consumer demand,” the regulator said.

The authority expects annual inflation at 3.8–4.8% in 2020 and close to 4% in the future.
